You will know that we are now using Learning Journals to communicate with families and you can upload photos of your children’s learning to share with us via that app. Up to date learning grids and resources are still available here and past learning grids can be found at the bottom of the page.

Home learning

For our penultimate week of term, we are focusing on reflecting on our time in P2.

Previous home learning grids are available at the bottom of the page. If there are activities or resources that you have enjoyed in previous weeks, by all means keep using them!


The Edinburgh Sound Chart may support your child with word building for writing and with other literacy activities. Use the link below to download a copy.

Vowel sounds on the chart are colour coded to support writing, e.g. ‘a’ is in ‘black’, ‘ee’ is in ‘green’, ‘oi’ is in ‘turquoise’.

Play

Here’s a new section where we will be adding links and documents that might help you to support your child’s play. If you have anything to share, please get in touch!

The International Play Association have launched a support document or parents and carers specifically for the current situation. There is some helpful advice included and a link to the booklet is below.

Educational websites

There is a huge amount available online to support teaching and learning. Many subscription websites are offering free access. However, remember this is a stressful enough time as it is. Don’t put pressure on yourself and remember to priorities your family’s physical and mental health and wellbeing.

That said, here are a few recommendations:

The Scottish Book Trust have a wealth for resources to support reading and imagination, including 10 activites to do with any book, a selection of book lists, and a huge catalogue of Authors Live videos! Search all the resources, for all ages, here.

Learning Boosts is a Youtube channel produced by staff at Clermiston Primary School. There is a wealth of resources about early literacy and numeracy designed to support parents. They have also begun a series of story based videos as a support during school closures.

The BP Education Partnership also have a collection of resources for science education which some of our children may find interesting.

The BBC are providing Bitesize Daily a set of 6 twenty-minute programmes each day targeted at different age groups. Tune in to the 5s-7s through BBC iPlayer and find extra resources to support the content here.

Audible are offering a free collection of audio books for children at stories.audible.com/discovery. You can also find lots of stories to listen to at Storynory.com. Click here.

EPIC Reading has a huge amount of texts to choose from.

We can give you free access from home but need a parent email to do so. If you’d like to try it out, get in touch with Mr Pritchard with your child’s name and your email address!

Sumdog.com has a variety of games support spelling and maths. You should have your child’s log in details. After an initial assessment period, questions should be targeted to your child’s ability level. Download the app or visit the website to get started. If you need log in details, contact admin@duddingston.edin.sch.uk.

Twinkl are offering free access to their resources over the next few months. Visit twinkl.com/offer and use the code CVDTWINKLHELPS. There’s a lot on Twinkl but they are offering some resources specifically targeted towards home learning during school closures.

Glasgow Science Centre will be bringing a bit of science into your home to help keep everyone inspired. Join them on their Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page at 10am every day. #GSCAtHome
